Paceship 26 (PY-26)
Description
The Paceship 26 (commonly known as the PY 26 or Paceship PY 26) is a popular Canadian-built coastal cruiser from Paceship Yachts Ltd. (Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia), designed by John Deknatel of C. Raymond Hunt Assoc.. Production ran from 1972 to 1977 under Paceship, then shifted to AMF Corp. (Connecticut, USA) until around 1981 (total ~364 built). In the early 1980s, Tanzer Yachts acquired the molds and produced a modified version as the Tanzer 27 (deck-stepped mast, different interior). It's a roomy, high-performance family cruiser for its length — often described as a "big 26-footer" with generous beam, good stability, and solid build quality. Ideal for coastal cruising, weekends, or light offshore (e.g., Great Lakes, East Coast, ICW), it's praised for handling well in light air (with a genoa) and feeling secure/dry in heavy weather.
