Pacer Puffin

Pacer Puffin

Description

The Pacer Puffin (later renamed simply "Pacer") is a classic British sailing dinghy designed by renowned naval architect Jack Holt in 1967. Originally commissioned by Puffin Paints and Glues as a family-friendly sailing dinghy larger than their earlier Puffin model, this design became one of Holt's most successful creations with over 2,400 boats built in the UK alone and spread internationally to Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, India, and beyond. The boat was originally called the "Puffin Pacer" after its commissioning builder. The name was changed to simply "Pacer" in the UK during the mid-1970s, with Australia following suit in 1989. The design featured a triple chine hull originally intended for plywood construction using the 'stitch and glue' method, though fiberglass versions became available. The UK Pacer Class Association officially dissolved in September 2012, marking the end of an era, though the class continues to thrive in Australia where boats are now built in fiberglass.
