Oz Goose
Description
The Oz Goose is a brilliant, ultra-low-cost 12 ft (3.66 m) plywood sailing dinghy designed in 2014 by Australian Michael Storer (storerboatplans.com) specifically to get kids, families, and developing-world communities sailing fast and affordably—often called the "Ikea of sailboats" for its ~$1,000 USD total build cost (plywood + epoxy + sails) and 60–80 hour amateur construction time. Inspired by the Philippine "oz goose" racing geese but simplified with stitch-and-glue + lug rig, over 2,000 sets of plans sold worldwide, with huge fleets in the Philippines (Goose Sailing Foundation teaches 1,000+ kids/year), Australia (Oz Goose Nationals 2025: Jan 18–20, Lake Cootharaba QLD, 80+ boats expected), and growing US/Europe groups.
