Pacific Seacraft Orion 27
Description
The Orion 27 (also known as the Pacific Seacraft Orion 27) is a classic, seaworthy fiberglass cruising sailboat designed by Henry Mohrschladt (co-founder of Pacific Seacraft) and built by Pacific Seacraft in the USA, with production from 1979 to around 1993 (including an updated Orion 27-2 variant with a longer coachroof for extra portlights). This compact yet capable bluewater-capable cruiser—often available in cutter, sloop, or yawl rig configurations—emphasizes traditional lines with heavy teak trim, bronze hardware, a full keel for excellent tracking and stability, a protected rudder, and a roomy interior (typically V-berth forward, saloon, galley, head, and quarter berths for 4–6) suited for coastal or extended offshore passages. It's praised for solid construction, comfortable motion in heavy seas, and ocean-crossing potential despite its modest size, with auxiliary power from a Yanmar diesel (often 16–27 HP). Production numbers aren't precisely tallied but were limited as part of Pacific Seacraft's high-quality lineup.
