O'Day 39
Description
The O'Day 39 is a classic American cruiser-racer sailboat designed by French naval architect Philippe Briand and produced from 1982 to 1985. It was built under license from the French Jeanneau Sun Fizz 40 (also known as the Sun Fizz in Europe), as both companies were owned by Bangor Punta at the time. A total of about 120 hulls were constructed by O'Day Corp. in Fall River, Massachusetts, making it a relatively rare but sought-after model today. The design emphasizes European styling with a sleek, low-profile trunk cabin, wide cambered decks for easy movement, and a tall masthead sloop rig that balances speed and comfort for coastal cruising or light racing. In 1986, it was slightly redesigned by C. Raymond Hunt Associates into the O'Day 40, which added a sugar-scoop transom for better cockpit access and swim platform.
