O'Day 272
Description
The O'Day 272, designed by C. Raymond Hunt of C.R. Hunt & Associates and produced by O'Day Corp. from 1985 to 1989 with around 100 hulls built, is a shallow-draft evolution of the O'Day 27, featuring a masthead sloop rig, wing keel drawing just 2.92 feet for easy access to skinny waters, and a fiberglass hull that prioritizes coastal cruising and weekend overnights with balanced handling and predictable stability. At 26.92 feet LOA with a 9-foot beam, 22.92-foot waterline, 5,375-pound displacement offset by 1,930 pounds of ballast, and 299 square feet of sail area—often powered by an outboard auxiliary or optional Yanmar diesel—it achieves hull speeds up to 6.4 knots and comfortable passages at 5–6 knots in moderate winds, earning praise from owners for its well-balanced helm, forgiving motion in chop, and roomy interior with V-berth forward, saloon settees, and quarter berth sleeping up to four (or five snugly) under 6 feet of headroom.
