Description
The O'Day 23-2 is an American-built trailerable sailboat designed by C. Raymond Hunt Associates and first produced in 1977 by O'Day Corp. (under Bangor Punta) in Fall River, Massachusetts, as a refined successor to the original O'Day 23 with lead ballast encapsulated in a molded fiberglass keel for superior stability, a centered companionway for easier access, and enhanced storage features like a cockpit cooler and under-stair icebox while preserving shoal-draft versatility and lively performance suited to couples or small families for coastal day sails or brief overnights. Constructed from fiberglass with a keel/centerboard hull and spade rudder for responsive handling and skinny-water exploration, it displaces 3,425 pounds with 1,200 pounds of lead ballast, measures 22.75 feet LOA, 19.50 feet LWL, 7.92 feet beam, and drafts 2.25 feet board-up to 5.33 feet board-down, delivering a hull speed of approximately 6.2 knots and 246 square feet of sail area under a masthead sloop rig powered by a standard 15 HP outboard (with rare factory OMC Zephyr inboard options) and minimal fuel capacity.
