O'Day 15

Description

The O'Day 15 is a lightweight, trailerable American daysailer designed for recreational racing and family outings, with two main variants produced by O'Day Corp.: the original O'Day 15 (1970–1974) by Andrew Kostanecki, a sporty trainer-racer with optional spinnaker and trapeze for exciting performance, and the revised O'Day 15-2 (1981–1983) by John Deknatel, featuring a more stable cockpit, increased sail area, and added ballast for easier handling and reduced capsize risk. Both models boast a fractional sloop rig on a centerboard (or daggerboard) dinghy hull, emphasizing simplicity, speed in light to moderate winds, and portability—ideal for beginners or club sailing—while owners rave about its forgiving nature, roomy open cockpit for 3–4 people, and fun "gunkholing" in protected waters like lakes or bays, though it's not suited for rough offshore conditions.
