Norwegian Pram 8

Norwegian Pram 8

Description

The Norwegian Pram 8 is a compact, traditional wooden pram dinghy designed by American naval architect Frank Davis, with plans originally published through sources like Gougeon Brothers (known for epoxy techniques). Introduced in the mid-20th century, it's intended for amateur builders as a simple, versatile tender or daysailer—perfect for children, solo use, or family outings on calm waters. The flat-bottomed pram hull offers exceptional stability and shallow draft for beaching, while the lug rig provides easy setup and handling. Construction typically uses cold-molded plywood with epoxy for lightweight durability, making it quick to build (a weekend project for experienced hands). It rows well with two oars, sails responsively in light breezes, and accepts a small outboard.
