Northumbrian Coble 9'4"

Description

The Northumbrian Coble 9'4" is the smallest in the acclaimed series of clinker-style plywood dinghies designed by British naval architect Paul Selway-Fisher, inspired by traditional Northumbrian fishing boats from England's Yorkshire coast. Plans have been available since the early 2000s through Selway-Fisher Design, with many built by amateurs as versatile tenders, sail trainers, or picnic boats. This compact, multi-chine hull (5 planks per side with tumblehome aft) offers generous freeboard, a deep forefoot, and flared bow for a dry ride in chop, while the centerboard allows adjustable draft for beaching. It rows efficiently with 2-3 adults, motors with a small outboard (up to 2 hp), or sails with 1 adult and a child under a simple gunter or lug rig. At under 80 lbs dry, it's highly portable and trailerable, built via stitch-and-tape plywood (4 sheets of 6mm marine ply) for quick assembly (10-20 hours).
