Northeaster Dory
Description
The Northeaster Dory is a lightweight, versatile plywood rowing and sailing dory designed by the legendary naval architect Philip C. Bolger in the 1970s, with plans and kits popularized by CLC Boats since the 1990s. Over 1,000 have been built, often as stitch-and-glue kits for amateur builders, emphasizing simplicity, portability, and seaworthiness in protected waters. The narrow, multi-chine hull rows efficiently with one or two oarsmen (fixed or sliding seats optional), carries three adults (up to 800 lbs load), and accepts an optional fractional sloop rig for spirited daysailing in light breezes. At just 100 lbs, it's trailerable and beach-launchable, with a daggerboard for upwind performance and a transom for a small outboard (2-4 hp).
