North Star 1000

Description

The North Star 1000 is a classic fiberglass masthead sloop designed by the prestigious firm Sparkman & Stephens (design #2098-C6) and built by North Star Yachts Ltd. (later Hughes Boatworks) in Canada from 1973 to 1977. Approximately 40 units were produced, evolving from an IOR 1/2-ton racer (related to the S&S 30 and Sagitta 30) into a versatile coastal cruiser with a taller coachroof and modified deck for added comfort. Featuring a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for protected steering and balanced handling, it's praised for its seaworthiness, responsive performance in breezes, and solid construction—ideal for couples or small families on day sails or short passages. The interior is cozy under a raised coachroof: V-berth forward, U-shaped galley, saloon with convertible settees (sleeps 4), enclosed head, and quarter berth aft.
