Description
The Norseman 400 (Grant) is a classic fiberglass bluewater cruising sailboat designed by naval architect Gary Grant and built by Norseman Yachts Inc. (with many units constructed by Ta Shing Yachts in Taiwan) from 1980 to 1988. Approximately 23 units were produced, making it a sought-after rarity among Perry-era contemporaries. It features a center-cockpit layout for enhanced safety and privacy, a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for protected, balanced steering, and a masthead sloop rig for straightforward, powerful sail handling. Renowned for its offshore capabilities—fast passages in varied conditions with a sea-kindly motion—this model prioritizes strength and comfort, boasting a robust Airex-cored hull/deck for insulation and rigidity. The spacious teak interior includes a rare 3-stateroom configuration: V-berth forward, guest/crew cabin with upper/lower berths to port aft, double-berth stateroom to starboard aft, U-shaped galley, large saloon with U-dinette and settee (sleeping 6-7), enclosed head with shower, and dedicated nav station. Standard power was a Westerbeke 4-154 diesel (46 hp).
