Norlin 34
Description
The Norlin 34 (also known as the Norlin 34 Mk I or simply Norlin 34) is a classic Swedish performance cruiser-racer designed by Peter Norlin (a prominent Swedish naval architect known for clean lines and competitive IOR designs). Built by Solna Marine in Sweden starting in 1972, with approximately 120 hulls produced (some sources note up to 120 for the Mk I, with a Mk II variant introduced in 1975 featuring a longer hull and taller rig for better IOR 3/4-ton compliance). It features solid fiberglass (GRP) construction with a fin keel and skeg-hung rudder for protection, tracking, and balanced handling, a masthead sloop rig optimized for performance, and a spacious, practical interior (typically 2 cabins with 6 berths, galley, heads, and good storage for coastal or offshore cruising). It's renowned for excellent seakeeping, generous sail plan for light-air capability, and seaworthiness (often praised as a "true bluewater cruiser" with comfortable motion despite its racing heritage)—many examples have proven themselves in extended passages and remain popular among owners for their timeless appeal, durability, and fun sailing in varied conditions.
