Nordic 34
Description
The Nordic 34 is a classic American performance cruiser-racer designed by renowned naval architect Robert Perry (known for designs like the Valiant 40 and Tayana 37). Built by Nordic Yachts in Bellingham, Washington, USA, from 1985 to 1991, only 8 hulls were produced (a very limited run, making it quite rare today). It features solid fiberglass (GRP) construction with a fin keel and spade rudder for responsive handling and good upwind performance, a masthead sloop rig optimized for balanced speed and ease, and a comfortable, well-finished interior (typically 2 cabins with 6 berths, spacious galley, heads, nav station, and ample tankage/storage for coastal or extended cruising). It's praised for excellent light-air capability, seaworthiness, and one of Perry's best designs of that era—fast, stiff, and sea-kindly with strong owner satisfaction in moderate to heavy conditions (e.g., Great Lakes performance noted in reviews). The builder later evolved into Norstar Yachts (producing the Perry-designed Nordics 40/44 as Norstar models), but the 34 was not revived.
