The Nonsuch 30, designed by Mark Ellis and built by Hinterhoeller Yachts in Canada from 1978 to 1989 with approximately 520 hulls produced, is an iconic 30-foot cat-rigged cruiser featuring a 11.83-foot beam, 25.5-foot waterline, and 5.0-foot draft (or 3.92-foot shoal) with 4,500 pounds of lead ballast in a 10,500-pound displacement for superb stability, a comfort ratio of 26–30, and a capsize screening value under 1.90. Its unstayed wishbone cat rig carries a massive 540 square feet of mainsail on a carbon-fiber mast, delivering a powerful SA/D of ~20.5 and PHRF ratings around 168–180, with effortless single-handed control, instant reefing, and remarkable heavy-weather balance.
