NIMBLE 30 SLOOP
Description
The Nimble 30 (also known as the Nimble 30 Yawl or Nimble Arctic 30 in some references) is a classic American pocket cruiser/yawl designed by renowned naval architect Ted Brewer. Built by Nimble Boats Works Inc. (Clearwater, Florida, USA) from 1985 to around 1997, only about 29 hulls were produced in fiberglass (GRP) with a modern hull design under traditional double-ended aesthetics (canoe stern, full keel or fin with skeg rudder for stability and tracking). It features a masthead yawl rig (main + small mizzen for easy shorthanded handling, balance, and heavy-weather versatility), pilothouse-like raised cabin in some descriptions (though primarily open cockpit with protected steering), and a surprisingly spacious, comfortable interior for its size (typically 4–6 berths with V-forward, settees, galley, enclosed head, and good storage/tankage for weekend or extended coastal cruising). It's praised for seaworthiness, stiff stability despite light displacement, motorsailing ability (inboard diesel auxiliary ~18–27 hp), and traditional beauty with modern performance—ideal for gunkholing, shallow-water exploring, or protected passages—still cherished by owners in active communities (e.g., Facebook groups).
