Nicholson 58
Description
The Camper & Nicholsons 58 (commonly known as the Nicholson 58) is a premium, proven bluewater cruising sailboat from the historic UK yard Camper & Nicholsons (Gosport), introduced in the mid-1980s (first built 1984). This is a large, capable offshore yacht designed for serious long-distance cruising, often in ketch or cutter rig configurations (some hulls as staysail ketches). The hull tooling was later sold to Colvic Craft, leading to variants sold as the Bluewater 58 (or Nicholson 58/60 in some references, with slight extensions or modifications). It's renowned for its robust fiberglass construction, excellent motion comfort in heavy seas, and spacious, luxurious accommodations—ideal for extended liveaboard or world cruising (many have logged impressive passages, including multi-year voyages). The design draws from well-proven hull shapes (some sources note influence or later adoption in projects like Sir Robin Knox-Johnston's Clipper 60 series). Production was limited, making these rare and highly regarded among bluewater enthusiasts.
