Nicholson 476
Description
The Camper & Nicholsons 476 (commonly known as the Nicholson 476) is a premium, semi-custom bluewater cruising sailboat from the mid-1980s, built by Camper & Nicholsons Ltd. in Gosport, UK, during the yard's peak era of high-quality fiberglass production. Production was limited to around 11–12 hulls (1984–1989), with molds later sold to Colvic Craft, where the design continued as the Bluewater 476 (a few more built post-1990, often with minor variations). This is a substantial, heavy-displacement performance cruiser optimized for long-distance offshore sailing—stable, seaworthy, and comfortable in heavy weather, with excellent load-carrying for extended voyages (many have proven themselves on world cruising routes). It features a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for good tracking/protection and maneuverability, high ballast ratio for stiffness, and customizable configurations (aft cockpit or center cockpit; sloop, cutter, or ketch rig; keel options including shoal draft). The in-house design at C&N emphasizes timeless lines, robust construction, and luxurious fit-out.
