Newport 41 Mk II
Description
The Newport 41 Mk II (also known as Newport 41 Mark II) is an updated American fiberglass cruiser-racer built by Capital Yachts Inc. in Harbor City, California, based on the original C&C Design (Cuthbertson & Cassian) hull from the late 1960s/early 1970s (initially molds from C&C Redline 41, passed through Lindsay Plastics/Enterprise to Capital). Introduced around 1982, it featured refinements like a redesigned rudder (extending waterline length for better speed and balance), revised coachroof for improved ergonomics/headroom, and other tweaks for enhanced cruising comfort and performance—while retaining the proven seaworthy racer-cruiser concept (robust GRP layup, fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for protection and tracking, masthead sloop rig). Production was part of the broader Newport 41 series (hundreds total across variants, with Mk II in moderate numbers through the 1980s), praised for offshore capability (many circumnavigations/class wins in its era), spacious teak-finished interior (typically 2–3 cabins with 6–8 berths, galley, heads, nav station, and good tankage), stability (high ballast ratio ~46%), and dual-purpose appeal—fast enough for club/offshore racing but comfortable for extended coastal/liveaboard cruising.
