Newport 41
Description
The Newport 41 is a classic American fiberglass cruiser-racer built by Capital Yachts Inc. (Harbor City, California, USA), designed by C&C Design (Cuthbertson & Cassian). The design originated in the late 1960s (based on the C&C Redline 41 molds), with production starting around 1970–1972 under various ownership transitions (initially Lindsay Plastics, then Capital Yachts, which built the majority until the early 1990s; some Mk II evolutions continued later). Hundreds of hulls were produced across variants (including Newport 41S and Mk II with updated rudder/coachroof), emphasizing a masthead sloop rig, fin keel with spade rudder (or skeg in some Mk II), robust GRP construction for seaworthiness, and a spacious, comfortable interior (typically 2–3 cabins with 6–8 berths, galley, heads, and good tankage/storage for extended coastal/offshore cruising). It's renowned as a proven passagemaker (many examples have cruised widely, including Caribbean/Pacific routes), with balanced performance (good upwind in breeze, stable with high ballast ratio ~47%), forgiving handling, and enduring appeal among owners for its build quality, speed potential in its era, and value as a capable racer-cruiser (some still compete in PHRF/beer-can races).
