Newport 27 S Tall Rig (TM)
Description
The Newport 27 S Tall Rig (sometimes referred to as Newport 27 S TM or tall rig variant in listings) is the taller-mast configuration of the Newport 27 S (a mid-1970s refinement in the Newport 27 series built by Capital Yachts Inc. in Harbor City, California, designed by C&C Design). This variant was available as an option during production (late 1970s–early 1980s), providing increased sail area and better light-air performance/power compared to the standard/short rig, while sharing the same fiberglass (GRP) hull (fin keel with spade rudder), spacious interior (stand-up headroom ~6 ft, 4–6 berths, galley/heads, quarter berth), and reputation as a forgiving, roomy coastal cruiser-racer with good stability and family-friendly handling. The tall rig emphasizes enhanced upwind and reaching ability in lighter winds without major changes to hull balance or draft.
