The Nelson Marek 35 (most commonly known as the 1D 35 or One Design 35) is a high-performance American one-design racing sailboat designed by the renowned San Diego-based firm Nelson/Marek Yacht Design (Bruce Nelson and Rodger Martin Marek era collaboration; Bruce Nelson was a key America's Cup designer). Built by Carroll Marine Ltd. in Bristol, Rhode Island, production ran from 1998 to 2001, with exactly 48 hulls constructed in lightweight composite (fiberglass with foam/balsa core for stiffness and low weight), featuring a fractional sloop rig, fin keel with bulb and spade rudder for agile handling, planing hull form optimized for speed in moderate to strong winds, minimal accommodations (basic V-berth forward, open cockpit for 4–6 crew, small head if fitted), and a reputation as an exciting, fast, trailerable racer that blends dinghy-like responsiveness with offshore-capable seaworthiness—winning accolades like Sailing World Boat of the Year in its category and popular for one-design fleets, PHRF club racing, and short-distance events.
