Description
The Nauticat 37 is a Finnish-built pilothouse sailboat designed by father-and-son team Kaj and Patrik Gustafsson and first produced in 2002 by Nauticat Yachts in Pietarsaari, Finland, as a modern evolution of the brand's motorsailer tradition—tracing back to the iconic 1966 Nauticat 33—prioritizing bluewater seaworthiness, all-weather visibility from its expansive deck saloon, and luxurious long-range cruising comfort for couples or small families. Constructed from fiberglass with a fin keel and partial skeg-hung rudder for balanced handling and protection, it features a monohull masthead sloop rig displacing 20,944 pounds with 6,724 pounds of lead ballast, a length overall of 36.84 feet, a beam of 11.81 feet, and a draft of 6.07 feet (with shoal-draft options available), achieving a theoretical hull speed of about 7.7 knots and a generous total sail area of 807 square feet powered by a standard 40 HP diesel engine (frequently upgraded to a 54 HP Yanmar) with 88 gallons of fuel and 116 gallons of water capacity. Renowned for its robust build quality, twin helms (inside and outside), spacious two- or three-stateroom interior with 6'5" headroom, U-shaped galley, and nav station integrated into the saloon, the Nauticat 37 was produced until 2018 with fewer than 100 units built, cementing its status as a premium, low-maintenance classic for discerning sailors seeking safety, autonomy, and Scandinavian elegance on extended voyages.
