The Nauticat 36 is a Finnish-built pilothouse motorsailer designed by Kaj Gustafsson and first produced in 1984 by Nauticat Yachts Oy in Pietarsaari, Finland, as a refined mid-sized evolution of the brand's traditional motorsailer lineup—succeeding the Nauticat 35—prioritizing heavy-displacement seaworthiness, panoramic all-weather visibility from its raised deck saloon, and sumptuous liveaboard comfort for couples or small families on extended coastal or bluewater cruises, with the signature ketch rig offering balanced sail power and short-handed manageability through split masts and a staysail stays. Constructed from solid fiberglass with a protective long keel and skeg-hung rudder for stability and grounding resilience, it displaces 20,723 pounds with 6,614 pounds of lead ballast, measures 36.09 feet LOA, 29.53 feet LWL, 11.42 feet beam, and 5.58 feet draft, achieving a hull speed of about 7.3 knots and 700 square feet of sail area under its masthead ketch configuration powered by a reliable 50 HP Volvo Penta diesel engine with 132 gallons of fuel and 106 gallons of water capacity for substantial motoring range.
