National Scorpion
Description
The Scorpion (most commonly referring to the Scorpion dinghy or National Scorpion class) is a popular British two-person hiking racing dinghy—a lightweight, high-performance small sailboat designed for fun, tactical racing and club-level competition. It's a British National class (recognized by the RYA) with an active class association in the UK and fleets elsewhere (including some in the US, though less common). Designed in 1959 by Taprell Dorling (with input from others in the class development), the first boats appeared in the early 1960s. It's known for its responsive handling, planing ability downwind, and versatility—suitable for club racing, open meetings, and even family sailing with a trapeze and spinnaker.
