Nancy's China Bermuda Rig

Nancy's China Bermuda Rig

Description

Nancy's China is a popular 15-foot pocket cruiser sailboat designed by Sam Devlin of Devlin Designing Boat Builders (Olympia, Washington). Introduced in the late 1980s/early 1990s, it gained fame as one of Devlin's most successful and enduring designs, often called a "classic" in the small-boat community for its clever balance of simplicity, trailerability, and capability. The name is a humorous nod to the controversy in the 1980s when First Lady Nancy Reagan purchased expensive new china sets for the White House (costing thousands per place setting), prompting Devlin to create an affordable boat that could be built for roughly the price of one such setting—emphasizing cash-build economy during tough economic times when financing was hard.
