Najadvarvet Najad 390
Description
The Najad 390 (also known as Najadvarvet Najad 390) is a premium Swedish bluewater cruising sailboat built by Najadvarvet AB (Najad Yachts) in Henån, Orust, Sweden, designed by Thorwald Karlsson. Production spanned from 1984 to 1995, with hulls constructed in solid fiberglass (GRP) featuring a fin keel (often encapsulated) with skeg-hung rudder for protection, robust build quality, and emphasis on seaworthiness, comfort, and Scandinavian craftsmanship typical of the yard. While exact production numbers are not precisely documented in public sources, it was produced in moderate quantities (likely in the range of 100–200 based on the 11-year run and comparison to similar Najad models like the 360's ~215 hulls), with some variations including Mk1 (counter stern) and Mk2 (sugar-scoop transom) versions in later years. It features a masthead sloop rig, a center cockpit layout for excellent protection and handling, luxurious teak interior (typically 2 cabins with 5-7 berths, spacious galley, heads, and ample storage/tankage), stable and balanced performance ideal for extended offshore or coastal cruising, and a strong reputation as a safe, comfortable passagemaker with proven bluewater credentials.
