Morgan Out Island 36 Sloop

Description

The Morgan Out Island 36 (1973–1979) is the rare sloop-rigged version of Charley Morgan’s legendary Caribbean charter boat — only about 80–90 were built versus 500+ ketches — and is widely considered the best-looking and best-sailing boat in the entire Out Island family. With the same bullet-proof full-keel hull, 17,000 lb. displacement, huge 140-gal water and 80-gal fuel capacity, walk-through interior, two heads, and condo-like volume as the ketch, the sloop adds a clean deck, dramatically better upwind performance (points 8–10° higher, tacks through 85–90°), and a lively yet stiff 16.9 SA/D, making it surprisingly quick and seaworthy for a full-keel design. Many have crossed oceans and circumnavigated, yet today these 45+ year-old classics remain affordable ($30k–$60k in 2025) and highly sought-after by cruisers who want classic 1970s charm, proven durability, and genuine sailing ability in one very pretty package.
