Morgan OI 416 Ketch
Description
The Morgan Out Island 41-6 Ketch (often abbreviated as Morgan OI 41-6 or simply the ketch-rigged Out Island 41) is a classic center-cockpit cruising sailboat from the renowned Out Island series. Designed by Charlie Morgan and built by Morgan Yachts (later under Catalina Yachts), it was introduced in 1972 as an optional ketch-rigged variant of the standard Out Island 41 sloop. The "41-6" designation typically refers to this ketch configuration, emphasizing its divided sail plan for easier handling on long passages. Over 1,000 Out Island 41s were produced between 1971 and 1986, with a smaller number (likely a few hundred) in ketch rig—making them sought-after for their balance of seaworthiness, interior volume, and affordability. These boats were popular for charter fleets and bluewater cruising, known for their heavy displacement, shoal draft, and liveaboard-friendly layout with an aft master stateroom, forward guest cabin, and two heads.
