Description
The Morgan Out Island 41-3 (OI 413) Sloop, introduced in 1971 as the inaugural model in Charley Morgan's iconic Out Island series, was designed for comfortable coastal and bluewater cruising, quickly becoming a staple in Caribbean charter fleets due to its spacious center-cockpit layout, shoal-draft fin keel, and robust fiberglass construction by Morgan Yachts in Florida. Measuring 41 feet 3 inches LOA with a 34-foot waterline, 13-foot-10-inch beam, and 4-foot-2-inch draft, this masthead-rigged sloop displaces 27,000 pounds (with 9,000 pounds of lead ballast) and carries approximately 670 square feet of sail area in its standard configuration, offering moderate performance (hull speed around 7.8 knots) with a heavy displacement/length ratio of 306 for stability in heavy weather, though it can feel tender upwind in light airs. Featuring a voluminous teak interior with an aft owner's stateroom, forward V-berth guest cabin, U-shaped galley, and two heads, plus capacities for 138 gallons of fuel and 170 gallons of water powered by a reliable Perkins 4-108 diesel, the OI 413's production ran through the early 1970s (part of over 1,000 total Out Island 41s built until 1986), earning praise for affordability and liveaboard versatility.
