Morgan OI 413 Ketch
Description
The Morgan Out Island 413 Ketch is the inaugural ketch-rigged variant of the legendary Out Island 41 series, launched in 1972 just one year after the original sloop debuted, and represents the earliest sub-model (designated "413") in Charley Morgan's lineup of affordable, spacious bluewater cruisers built by Morgan Yachts in Largo, Florida. Tailored for charter operations and family voyaging in shallow waters like the Bahamas, this center-cockpit ketch features a divided sail plan for simpler short-handed handling, a shoal-draft full keel for gunkholing, and a voluminous teak interior that made it a liveaboard favorite, with over 1,000 total Out Island 41s produced through 1986 (including several hundred ketches across sub-models 413–416). Minor evolutions in the 413 included a walk-over transom, non-opening ports, and a forward galley setup, evolving in later numbers (e.g., 416) to walk-through designs and larger sail areas, but all shared the same robust hand-laid fiberglass hull with balsa-cored deck, earning a reputation for seaworthiness despite modest upwind performance in light winds.
