Description
The Morgan 43 (often designated as the Morgan 43 CC for its center-cockpit configuration) is a robust, performance-oriented cruising sloop designed by the acclaimed Nelson Marek team and built by Morgan Yachts in the United States, debuting in 1985 shortly after Catalina Yachts acquired the brand, as a modern evolution blending bluewater seaworthiness with racer-cruiser agility in a fiberglass hull with fin keel and skeg-hung rudder. Positioned as a step up from the heavy-displacement Out Island series, it targeted serious voyagers and liveaboards with its spacious teak interior (aft master stateroom, forward guest cabin, U-galley, saloon, and two heads sleeping 6–7), ample tankage for extended passages, and balanced sail plan that rewards skilled handling, though its brief production run (primarily 1985–1987, with about 50–60 hulls) and evolution into the similar Catalina Morgan 43/44 makes it a collector's item today—praised in owner circles for punching above its weight in speed (up to 8 knots) while offering forgiving stability.
