Morgan 36T
Description
The Morgan 36T (also known as the Morgan 1 Ton), designed by Charles Morgan and Craig V. Walters and produced by Morgan Yachts in 1973 in a limited run of approximately 20-30 hulls, is a classic American IOR-era racer-cruiser optimized for One Ton class offshore racing and coastal cruising, featuring a masthead sloop rig, fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for balanced handling and stability in moderate to heavy winds (up to 25 knots), and a heavy-displacement fiberglass hull that delivers solid seaworthiness with a high ballast ratio for stiffness—owners appreciate its quick acceleration (up to 7.3 knots hull speed), forgiving motion, and spacious interior relative to its era, though the narrow beam forward (typical IOR influence) limits pure comfort for extended bluewater voyages without updates. This model preceded the rating rule changes in 1984 and stands apart from later Heritage One Ton designs; it offers a practical layout with V-berth forward, saloon settees, nav station, and quarter berth sleeping up to 6 under about 6'1" headroom, plus a galley and head, powered by the reliable Universal Atomic 4 gas inboard (30 HP) for motoring at 5-6 knots.
