Morgan 34
Description
The Morgan 34, designed by Charles Morgan and built by Morgan Yachts from 1965 to 1972, stands as one of the earliest and most successful production fiberglass sailboats from the era, embodying the late Custom Carvel Association (CCA) rule with its shoal-draft keel/centerboard configuration ideal for coastal cruising in shallow waters like the Florida Keys, Bahamas, or Chesapeake Bay. Measuring 34 feet LOA with a 10-foot beam, 24.75-foot waterline, and displacement of 12,500 pounds (including 5,200 pounds of ballast), it features a masthead sloop rig with 545 square feet of sail area, delivering moderate performance—PHRF 189, hull speed of 6.67 knots, and a comfort ratio of 32.68—characterized by easy balance in moderate winds thanks to its narrow hull and long keel, though it develops weather helm in breeze and lags behind lighter contemporaries like the Tartan 34.
