PDQ Monocat

PDQ Monocat

Description

The PDQ Monocat is a rare Canadian 16 ft (4.88 m) rotomolded polyethylene high-performance daysailer designed by Phil Stevo and built by PDQ Yachts (Whitby, Ontario) from 1984 to about 1989, with only around 120–150 units produced before the company shifted focus to larger catamarans. Intended as a direct competitor to the Hobie 16 but in monohull form, the Monocat features a very wide (8 ft) low-freeboard planning hull with hard chines, a fully battened 120 sq ft mainsail plus optional 60 sq ft roller-furling jib on an unstayed aluminum mast, single trapeze, kick-up rudder, and lifting daggerboard (9 in up / 3 ft 6 in down). All-up weight is just 260 lbs., making it easily car-toppable or dolly-launched by one person.
