Fuji 32 Ketch

Description

The Fuji 32 is a robust 31'5" (9.6 m) monohull sailboat designed by the legendary American naval architect John Gale Alden in the mid-1970s, built to high standards by Fuji Yacht Builders Ltd. in Japan starting in 1976, and sharing molds with the Mariner 31/32 for economical production. Featuring elegant classic lines with a clipper bow, modified full keel, and cutaway forefoot for balanced stability and windward performance, it's rigged as a ketch (or optionally cutter) with a heavy displacement of 12,800 lb. (including 4,500 lb. .ballast), making it stiff, seaworthy, and ideal for blue water cruising despite modest sail area (624 sq ft) and underpowered engine (typically a 32 hp Yanmar diesel). With a beam of 10'6" (3.2 m), draft of 5'3" (1.6 m), and a displacement/length ratio of 386 classifying it as a heavy cruiser, the Fuji 32 offers a spacious teak-interior layout for 4–6 with a V-berth forward, saloon, galley, and nav station, though its small 40-gal fuel and 60-gal water tanks limit long-range autonomy without mods. Production ended in the early 1980s after about 100 hulls, but the design's reputation for durability endures, with active owners via fujiyachts.net sharing specs, manuals, and photos.
