Mirage 5.5
Description
The Mirage 5.5 is an American trailerable Mini Ton racer designed by Ken Fickett and built by Mirage Manufacturing (Gainesville, Florida) from 1975 to 1983, with approximately 550 hulls produced as a lightweight, high-performance daysailer optimized for the International Offshore Rule (IOR) class, featuring a swing keel for shallow-water access, beaching, or easy trailering. This fiberglass masthead sloop with wood trim emphasizes speed and simplicity for club racing or family day sails accommodating 2–4 in a spartan interior with V-berths forward, settee berths, and minimal galley/head, delivering agile handling (SA/D 26.97) and a hull speed of 5.58 kn but noted for tenderness in heavy winds; owners praise its affordability and ease of maintenance, often refitting with modern outboards and sails for casual beer-can races or coastal jaunts.
