Mirage 35

Description

The Mirage 35 is a Canadian-built sailboat designed by renowned American yacht designer Robert Perry and first produced in 1983 by Mirage Yachts in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, as a refined evolution of the Mirage 33, incorporating a reverse transom for improved aesthetics and hydrodynamics while preserving the same waterline length, beam, draft, sail plan, and interior layout to maintain its versatile racer-cruiser appeal that prioritizes responsive performance alongside comfortable cruising accommodations. Constructed primarily from fiberglass with a balsa-cored hull and lead ballast, it features a monohull fin keel with spade rudder configuration, displacing 10,000 pounds with 3,500 pounds of ballast, a length overall of 35.5 feet, a beam of 11.67 feet, and a draft of 5 feet, enabling a hull speed of 6.93 knots and a total sail area of 468 square feet under a masthead sloop rig powered by a Volvo diesel engine with 20-gallon fuel and 40-gallon water capacities. Known for its balanced handling, generous 6'5" headroom, slightly wider-than-average beams for enhanced livability, and PHRF handicap averaging 150 for competitive racing, the Mirage 35 was produced through the late 1980s until Mirage Yachts ceased operations around 1989, with units numbering in the low hundreds and remaining popular classics for short-handed sailors seeking speed and seaworthiness.
