Description
The Mirage 29 is a 29-foot (8.84 m) recreational keelboat designed by French naval architect Philippe Harlé and built by Mirage Yachts Ltd. in Pointe Claire, Quebec, Canada, from 1986 to 1989 as a successor to the Mirage 27, emphasizing comfortable coastal cruising with French-inspired styling. Constructed with a solid fiberglass hull, balsa-cored deck, and wood trim, it features a masthead sloop rig, fixed fin keel (draft 5 ft 3 in / 1.6 m), spade rudder, and a beam of 10 ft (3.05 m), with a displacement of approximately 8,400 lbs. (3,810 kg) including 3,200 lbs. (1,451 kg) of ballast for a 38% ballast ratio. Its long waterline (24 ft 6 in / 7.47 m), moderate displacement-length ratio of 250, and sail area/displacement ratio of 17.6 provide balanced performance—lively upwind yet stable in moderate seas—while the interior offers a V-berth forward, U-shaped galley, saloon settees, enclosed head, and a spacious aft cabin with double berth under the cockpit, ideal for couples or small families though taller sailors may find berths snug. A commercial hit with nearly 300 units produced (over 50 pre-orders before launch), it earned praise for seaworthiness and MORC racing potential, though its small 20-gallon fuel tank limits motoring range.
