Maxi Magic
Description
The Maxi Magic (also known as Maxi Fenix 8.5 in some markets or simply Magic) is a compact, lively Swedish pocket cruiser/racer-cruiser designed by the iconic Pelle Petterson (Olympic medalist and designer of the entire Maxi series). Built by Maxi Yachts from 1984 to 1986 (with around 250–400 hulls produced), it's a direct successor/evolution to models like the Maxi 68 and 77, offering a more modern hull shape, fractional rig, and better light-air performance while maintaining the classic Swedish traits: robust fiberglass construction, ease of handling, and surprising interior space for its size. This is a fractional (7/8) sloop with a fin keel, transom-hung rudder, and self-tacking jib options on many—perfect for shorthanded sailing. It's light, reasonably quick (good in moderate winds), stiff, and forgiving, but with a lower righting capability if capsized, so it's best as a coastal daysailer/weekender or occasional overnighter rather than heavy offshore.
