Maxi Fenix
Description
The Maxi Fenix (also known as Maxi Fenix 8.5 or Maxi Fenix 28) is a popular Swedish pocket cruiser designed by the legendary Pelle Petterson (Olympic medalist and architect of the entire Maxi series). Built by Maxi Yachts and Börjesson Brothers from 1981 to 1989 (with production around 1,300 hulls), it's a step up from the earlier compact models like the Maxi 77, offering more modern features while keeping the classic Swedish build quality: thick fiberglass hull, excellent stability, and rewarding sailing. This is a fractional (7/8) sloop with a fin keel (often with bulb), spade rudder, self-tacking jib (on many), and lines led aft to the cockpit for easy shorthanded handling. It's light and reasonably quick (good performer in moderate winds), stiff enough for coastal work, but best suited as a day-boat/weekender due to its moderate displacement and low righting moment if capsized.
