Maxi 87

Maxi 87

Description

The Maxi 87 is a classic Swedish family cruiser designed by the renowned Pelle Petterson (Olympic medalist in the Star class and designer of the iconic Volvo P1800). Built by Maxi Yachts (Pelle Petterson AB) and Börjesson Brothers from 1975 to 1982, approximately 449 hulls were produced. It's part of the successful Maxi series, known for robust fiberglass construction, spacious interiors relative to length, solid seaworthiness, and balanced sailing performance—making it a great choice for coastal cruising, family outings, or longer passages. This is a masthead sloop with a fin keel, skeg-hung rudder, and raised coachroof for excellent headroom and volume. It's stiffer than many peers (high ballast ratio), comfortable in a seaway, and easy to handle shorthanded.
