Maxi 68
Description
The Maxi 68 is a charming, compact Swedish daysailer/weekender from the early Maxi series, designed by the legendary Pelle Petterson (Olympic medalist in the Star class and founder of Maxi Yachts). Built by Maxi Yachts (Pelle Petterson AB) in collaboration with Börjesson Brothers from 1975 to 1981, around 1,200 hulls were produced, making it one of the brand's early success stories alongside models like the Maxi 77. It's a fractional (7/8) sloop with a fin keel and transom-hung rudder, emphasizing nimble handling, solid stability, and easy singlehanded sailing. The design philosophy blends comfort, safety, and performance in a robust fiberglass package—perfect for day sails, short overnights, or as an entry-level cruiser. It's responsive and maneuverable in moderate conditions, though noted as slightly underpowered in very light air (great once the breeze picks up).
