Maple Leaf 42
Description
The Maple Leaf 42 is a classic Canadian-built center-cockpit cruiser designed by Stan Huntingford (a respected naval architect known for bluewater-capable designs) and constructed by Cooper Enterprises Inc. (also associated with Forbes Cooper/Cooper Yachts) in North Vancouver, British Columbia, starting around 1976 (some sources note 1974 origins, with production through the 1980s). It's part of the Maple Leaf series, renowned for solid fiberglass construction, comfortable accommodations, and offshore cruising prowess—often described as a capable, roomy bluewater boat with a motorsailer lean (great under power but still sails well). This model stands out for its generous interior volume, center cockpit layout (providing excellent protection and separation of living/sailing areas), and thoughtful features like fore and aft cabins, dual heads, and a walk-in engine room on many examples. Owners frequently highlight its comfort at sea, spaciousness, and reliability for extended cruising (e.g., Pacific passages or coastal hopping). It's not a lightweight racer—more of a sturdy, motion-comfortable cruiser with moderate performance.
