The Mallard 19, a rare fiberglass daysailer-cruiser designed by Vince DiMaio and built by Customflex in the USA starting in 1969 with fewer than 40 units produced, channels the Flying Scot's proven hull lines into a compact, "boat-shaped" fractional sloop with centerboard trunk for versatile shallow-water access, boasting LOA 19.08 ft, LWL 18.83 ft, beam 6.75 ft, displacement 1,050 lbs (ultralight D/L 70 for quick acceleration), and 173 sq ft sail area yielding a high SA/D of 26.8—delivering spirited performance with nimble handling in light airs (4-5 knots in 5-7 knots breeze via genoa), sharp upwind pointing through ~100° at 5 knots in 12 knots wind, and planing reaches to hull speed of 5.81 knots (PHRF ~100 estimated), though its low comfort ratio of 6.7 and capsize screening of 2.66 demand attentive crewing in gusts over 20 knots, suiting coastal day sails or overnights for solo or small crews rather than rough offshore.
