Malabar Jr

Malabar Jr

Description

The Malabar Jr. is a classic American wooden cruiser designed by John G. Alden (his design No. 691 from 1939, with earlier Malabar Jr. variants dating back to 1926). It's a series of yachts (several built over the years, with slight variations), often carvel-planked with an outside-ballasted full keel for stability and seaworthiness. The most popular version is a sloop (some yawl configs), emphasizing comfortable cruising with good looks and moderate performance—long overhangs, slacker bilges, and a practical interior (choice of 3 or 4 berths).
