Lancer 65

Description

The Lancer 65 is a rare, large motorsailer (a hybrid sailboat with strong powerboat capabilities) produced by Lancer Yacht Corporation (based in Irvine, California, USA) in the mid-1980s. The company, founded by former Columbia Yachts president Dick Valdes, built a range of sailboats and motorsailers from 25' to 65' before ceasing production around 1986. Designed by Herb David, the Lancer 65 (also referred to as the Lancer 65 Motorsailer) stands out for its emphasis on power performance. These boats were equipped with substantial engines (often single or twin diesels), allowing speeds exceeding 15 knots under power while still offering decent sailing performance—perfect for those wanting the best of both worlds during an era of fuel concerns. Very few were built, making the Lancer 65 quite uncommon today.
