Description
The Lancer 42 is a classic American motorsailer/cruiser produced by Lancer Yacht Corp. (Irvine, California) from 1980 to 1983. Designed by Herb David, it belongs to Lancer's distinctive line of motorsailers (often with "PS" for Power Sailer variants in the brand), featuring powerful inboard engine(s) for high motoring speeds (up to 15+ knots with single or twin diesels) while still offering acceptable sailing performance under a sloop rig. This hybrid design prioritizes reliable power for coastal/offshore cruising with auxiliary sail capability—ideal for those wanting motorboat-like dependability without fully sacrificing wind-powered options. It's a recreational keelboat with fiberglass construction, a raked stem, reverse transom, and spade rudder (wheel steering).
