Lancer 36
Description
The Lancer 36 is a classic American racer-cruiser sailboat produced by Lancer Yacht Corp. (Irvine, California) from 1973 to around 1985, with a later fractional rig variant (Lancer 36 FR) introduced in 1982. It was the company's flagship model and first boat, designed by Bill Lee (with input from Bruce King), and its hull was directly based on the legendary West Coast racer Chutzpah, which famously won the Transpac (Transpacific Yacht Race) in both 1973 and 1975. This racing pedigree makes the Lancer 36 one of the best-performing boats in the Lancer lineup—light, fast, and capable in ocean conditions. It's a masthead sloop rig (original version) or fractional sloop (FR variant from 1982, designed by Bruce Farr), built of fiberglass with wood trim, featuring a raked stem, reverse transom, internally mounted spade rudder (wheel steering), and fixed fin keel. Owners often call it Lancer's "best" sailboat—responsive, quick, and fun to sail short-handed, with good performance in a range of winds.
